Vice President/Director, Connections Strategy (CRM & Owned Channels)
Role Overview
The VP / Director, Connections Strategy (CRM-focused) is responsible for defining and leading the strategic vision for how brands build enduring, customer-centric relationships through owned and addressable channels. Deep expertise across marketing strategy, CRM, data, and marketing technology shapes how strategy is developed, activated, and evolved across key client relationships and the broader agency.
This role brings a sophisticated understanding of how consumers interact with addressable channels and technology and applies that knowledge to solve complex business challenges through orchestrated, scalable systems of engagement, not one-off programs. The role sets direction, elevates thinking, and ensures CRM and Connections Strategy is viewed as a core growth driver for clients.
Job Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership & Client Impact
- Sets and leads the strategic vision for CRM and Connections Strategy across priority accounts, ensuring consistency, rigor, and forward-looking thinking
- Leads high-level analysis of how consumers engage with CRM communications, synthesizing research, performance data, and segmentation insights into clear strategic direction
- Owns the design and evolution of end-to-end customer and lifecycle journeys, identifying the highest-value moments to drive relevance, loyalty, and lifetime value
- Assesses CRM and owned-channel maturity at an enterprise level, defining multi-phase roadmaps to improve effectiveness, scalability, and long-term value
- Crafts compelling strategic narratives that articulate the value exchange between brands and customers and guide how that promise shows up across owned and addressable touchpoints
Systems, Orchestration & Innovation
- Leads the design of orchestrated systems of brand communications, partnering with integrated marketing, media, analytics, and creative teams to bring customer-centric strategies to life
- Guides how 1P and 3P data, martech platforms, and decisioning capabilities are translated into strategic use cases and activation frameworks
- Partners with analytics leadership to shape how segmentation, learning agendas, and performance insights inform contact strategies and optimization over time
- Ensures CRM and owned channels are thoughtfully connected to broader marketing ecosystems, creating cohesion across channels, moments, and experiences
Leadership, Influence & Growth
- Serves as a trusted senior advisor to clients, confidently leading conversations on strategy, performance, competitive context, cultural shifts, and future opportunity
- Facilitates executive-level client workshops, from defining strategic vision to prioritizing customer experiences and activation roadmaps
- Leads the evolution and stewardship of the Connections Strategy toolkit, ensuring a consistent, scalable, and best-in-class approach to outputs and ways of working
- Mentors and develops senior and mid-level strategists, setting a high bar for thinking, storytelling, and strategic ownership
- Partners closely with relationship leads and cross-capability leadership to ensure Connections Strategy is integrated, visible, and influential
- Supports business development efforts by shaping POVs, leading strategic sections of pitches, and delivering clear, compelling recommendations

Qualifications
Qualifications & Experience
This role requires 10–14 years of experience and a proven ability to operate at a senior strategic level. The ideal candidate is:
- A digitally and CRM-savvy marketing leader with deep experience in omni-channel and owned-channel orchestration
- A proven strategist with a strong track record of leveraging data-driven segmentation and lifecycle thinking to drive customer-centric strategies
- A CRM expert who understands how data, technology, and decisioning enable personalization and relevance at scale
- A rigorous analytical thinker and translator, able to synthesize complex data into clear strategic direction and persuasive narratives
- A cross-channel systems thinker with strong instincts for channel role definition, orchestration, and scalability
- A creative strategic partner who can define the job-to-be-done for each channel and articulate how individual efforts ladder into a holistic system
- A confident senior presence with the ability to influence and advise executive-level clients while fostering strong internal partnerships
- A people leader with a demonstrated history of building, coaching, and developing high-performing strategy teams
- Highly collaborative, service-oriented, and comfortable navigating ambiguity and change
- An experienced communicator with exceptional organization, prioritization, and time-management skills

Compensation Range: $129,485- $186,060 annually. This is the pay range the Company believes it will pay for this position at the time of this posting. Consistent with applicable law, compensation will be determined based on the skills, qualifications, and experience of the applicant along with the requirements of the position, and the Company reserves the right to modify this pay range at any time. Temporary roles may be eligible to participate in our freelancer/temporary employee medical plan through a third-party benefits administration system once certain criteria have been met. Temporary roles may also qualify for participation in our 401(k) plan after eligibility criteria have been met. For regular roles, the Company will offer medical coverage, dental, vision, disability, 401k, and paid time off.
