Digitas and JFK Library Launch Apollo 11 AR Simulation with “JFK Moonshot” App

Boston, MA

  • Digitas, the Connected Marketing Agency, in partnership with the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library, launched “Full Circle”, a spot that tells a story 57 years in the making, connecting JFK to the Apollo 11 mission through one of the many people he inspired.
  • The spot follows one woman's fascination with space throughout her lifetime: as a curious young girl watching JFK's famous "We choose to go to the moon" speech in 1962, a thrilled teenager watching Apollo 11 launch in 1969, and an older woman reliving the mission in augmented reality today.
  • The spot is running nationally in AMC theaters through the summer to continue the 50th anniversary year celebration.
  • Digitas & the JFK Presidential Library invited people from around the world to join Apollo 11’s journey from Earth to the Moon – 50 years later – with the JFK Moonshot app, an immersive, augmented reality experience that celebrates the anniversary of the first Moon landing and President Kennedy’s vision that launched the effort.
  • JFK Moonshot allows users to relive one of the greatest achievements in human history by launching their own Saturn V rocket on Tuesday, July 16 at 9:32am ET, exactly 50 years after Apollo 11’s liftoff.
  • Users can then track the five-day mission to the Moon in real time with 120+ hours of simulation made possible by combining 3D digital assets and actual archival footage and audio recordings.
  • Those in the Boston area were invited on July 16th to come to the JFK Library to witness the first-ever, full-scale augmented reality simulation of Apollo 11’s 363-foot tall Saturn V rocket launch from the Library’s outdoor patio at 9:32am ET.
  • Just like the event in 1969, the launch was broadcast across the country and around the world live beginning at 9am ET—but this time using 21st century streaming platforms including YouTube, Facebook, and Twitch.
  • Joining JFK’s team in the “broadcast booth” were some of the most popular streamers on the Twitch platform today.
  • Digitas teamed up with UNIT9, a global production partner, to create the app.
  • JFK Moonshot can be downloaded in the App Store or Google Play for Android by searching JFK Moonshot. It’s also linked directly at www.jfkmoonshot.org.
