EU Referendum Tracker available via Apple Wallet
POLITICO’s European edition, a joint venture between Axel Springer SE and POLITICO, has launched the beta version of its EU Referendum Tracker, a new mobile product available for iPhone users via Apple Wallet. The product was created in collaboration with global marketing and technology agency DigitasLBi.
The pass will deliver live polling and results data, as well as breaking news alerts about the June 23rd EU vote. Similar to a boarding pass, event ticket or a loyalty card on Apple Wallet, the EU Referendum Tracker will provide iPhone users on-the-go access to real-time data and analysis from POLITICO’s team of journalists in Brussels, London, Berlin and Paris.
“This is a great way for us to test pushing key moments of a major story to our audience so that they can keep track without having to go looking for news,” said Kate Day, POLITICO’s editorial director of growth. “It’s an eye-catching addition to our already robust Brexit coverage and something distinctive that we can offer that others won’t—continuous updates for those closely following one of this year’s most significant political and policy debates.”
“The EU Referendum Tracker shows how content is moving beyond the traditional app and web silos,” said Rafe Blandford, DigitasLBi’s senior mobile strategist. “Together with updates sent via push notifications the Tracker delivers on the promise of engaging users in real-time with a fantastically simple discovery and distribution mechanism.”
DigitasLBi led a team of journalists and technologists in London and Brussels to develop the concept, design, operations and middleware. The feature leverages Urban Airship’s Wallet Studio as a service solution. Wallet Studio allows brands and publishers to dynamically update the contents of a mobile wallet pass and send highly visible lockscreen notifications related to those changes.
